Shark Tank India: How Twitter uses Ashneer Grover's memes to combat phone addiction

Shark Tank India has definitely cemented itself as a pop culture phenomenon in the country, raking in ratings and even becoming a part of table talk in Indian households. Perhaps, the most compelling indicator of the show's success and popularity is the plethora of memes it has spawned, mostly based on the comments made by the show’s expert judges.

And it would not be wrong to say that one shark in particular stood out from the rest with his remarks, characterised by their bluntness, dominating most of the meme content. Ashneer Grover, managing director and co-founder of BharatPe, became known as the sharpest shark in the tank, not mincing words when it came to offering his two cents on contestants’ pitches. Recently, it seems that Twitter users have found clever and unique ways to break some of their bad habits using Grover’s ‘words of wisdom’.

Users have decided to make use of some of Grover’s popular phrases to motivate them to put down their phones. Twitterati devised an innovative method to do so as well, by making the memes the lock screen on their devices so that when they see the same, Grover’s sharp comments would remind them of their ‘phone addictions’. Most of the lock screens seemed to be dominated by Grover’s “Bhai, kya kar raha hai tu” dialogue.

Some also feature him saying, “thoda to serious ho jao life mein”

And of course, some users could not resist making his comments into some old-fashioned chuckle-worthy memes, drawing from their own life experiences.

The business reality show, hosted by Rannvijay Singha, also featured Namita Thapar, Anupam Mittal, Peyush Bansal, Ghazal Alagh, Aman Gupta and Vineeta Singh as judges.
