Shark Tank India’s stage witnessed its fair share of inspiring stories. When Ridhima Arora came on the show, viewers saw an intelligent, tenacious woman who gave an impressive pitch of her Ayurvedic food brand, Namhya Foods. Behind the contestant’s business journey lies an inspiring start of how taking care of a loved one led her to build a brand worth crores today.

In conversation with Mint, Arora revealed how she left her job at a telecom company to take care of her ailing father, who was battling liver cirrhosis. As her father’s condition got worse, Arora decided to drastically change his diet. The businesswoman had got rid of foods with any preservatives and included ayurvedic mixtures and locally sourced food in his diet. Her father’s condition started to improve due to this, and that is how she got the idea to start Namhya.

Arora’s grandfather had a store that sold Ayurvedic herbs, which was later taken on by her father. She revealed that her family supplied herbs as raw materials for a number of doctors. To start her company, Arora had sought out and made a compilation of Ayurvedic recipes which were passed on for generations. She also got certified with a course on Ayurvedic medicine. Her brand now produces a variety of Ayurvedic products including teas, lattes, cereals and more. The businesswoman, who started her company over two years ago, said that her products can help improve the quality of life of people suffering from a variety of ailments, including PCOS.

On Shark Tank India, Arora received a deal from boAt co-founder and CMO Aman Gupta, who invested Rs 50 lakhs in her company for a stake of 10%.
