Shark Tank India: When Ashneer Grover said, 'Mujhe nahi lagta aapko brand banana aata hai'

As Shark Tank India season 2's release approaches, the makers of the show have shared a throwback video from season 1. This was when Ashneer Grover became a popular name because of how frankly and rudely he spoke about the pitches and brands. The latest promo is where he said those pitching their product didn't know how to market a brand.

"Mujhe nahi lagta aapko brand banana aata hai," Ashneer had said to a family that pitched Eume back massager bags to the sharks. He was hinting at the diverse products and price ranges under the brand.

Interestingly, though, Ashneer was among the two sharks who offered a deal to the family. The other person to make an offer was Anupam Mittal. It was also a rare instance when, instead of lashing out at those pitching their product, Ashneer wished them more success.

Vineeta Singh, the founder of Sugar Cosmetics, and Aman Gupta, the co-founder of BOAT, had already raised the question. The family pitched the idea of the bag but also spoke about their various products, including umbrellas and face masks.

Vineeta had inquired about the family's various price ranges. She pointed out that if a person would buy a Rs. 700 bag with the brand logo anyway, why would they invest over Rs. 5,000 in the massager bags?

As expected, Vineeta and Aman refused to make an offer. Namita Thapar wasn't buying the pitch either.

On the other hand, the family turned down both Ashneer and Anupam's offers. Since Anupam wanted to invest in the parent company, the entrepreneurial family was not interested in his offer. On the other hand, since Ashneer offered debt, they turned down that offer too. Ashneer certainly asked the entrepreneurs to trust in debt as much as they do in equity, and he bid them farewell with the hope that they would have a high valuation.

Shark Tank India season 2 will start streaming on Sony LIV on January 2, 2023. This time, CarDekho co-founder Amit Jain has replaced Ashneer on the show. This is his first time as the shark. He will be joined by the previous sharks for season 2.
