Shark Tank India: Youtuber calls out pitch on the show, says the company is based on a pseudoscience

Shark Tank India’s first season concluded last month, but the show is still being talked about by its viewers. The latest buzz is about a YouTube video posted last month, which is going viral now. The video calls out a startup that pitched their company on the show.

In the video hosted by Pranav on the YouTube channel called ‘Science is Dope’, he calls out a startup called AyuRythm, for being based on Ayurveda, a pseudoscience. 

In episode 31 of the show, the pitch was made for a wellness app, AyuRythm, that analyzes the body’s comprehension as per Ayurveda’s tri-doshas and gives you wellness advice. The YouTuber states that there is no reality in this and that there is no evidence for it apart from in theory. 

He further adds that the pitch and the company is based on a number of logical fallacies and that it runs on an appeal to ignorance. The company also fails to give any certification for their product and the YouTuber says that good standards of diagnosis do not exist in Ayurveda.

Shark Tank India, is based on the American show Shark Tank. The show has aspiring entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to the ‘sharks’ or judges, who can invest in the product or company for equity stakes in their company.

The sharks in the show are, Ashneer Grover (managing director and co-founder of BharatPe), Aman Gupta (co-founder and chief marketing officer of boAt), Anupam Mittal (founder and CEO of Shaadi.com), Namita Thapar (executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals), Vineeta Singh (CEO and co-founder of SUGAR Cosmetics), Peyush Bansal (co-founder and CEO of Lenskart) and Ghazal Alagh (Co-founder and Chief Mama of MamaEarth).
