Shashank Khaitan on casting Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi and Kiara for Govinda Naam Mera: It was like a dream-come-true

If an actor has the power to elevate the vision of the director on the screen in a film, it becomes very crucial for a filmmaker to cast the right actor to play the part. Shashank Khaitan, who is all set to release his next feature film Govinda Naam Mera, shares how getting the star cast of Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani was a dream-come-true moment for him. 

Shashank said, "As a director, I knew actors that could fit in just right and do complete justice to their roles. It was like a dream-come-true, having people you wanted, play the roles that you saw them in." 

He also shared that when he reached out, everyone he wanted, agreed to play the part. That is what made the task easy yet exciting because all the actors delivered their best, believes Shashank. "Every little suggestion made was incorporated and I believe that each of them delivered excellence, in the part they played," he shared. 

The story of the film revolves around Govinda, a struggling dancer, who is torn between his marriage with Gauri (played by Bhumi) and love for his girlfriend Suku (played by Kiara). The movie sees how an unconventional love triangle with dramatic turns and twists goes all over the places. 

Making his debut as a director in Bollywood with the film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Shashank delivered some of the most successful films like Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Dhadak and the anthology Ajeeb Daastaans. He has worked with some of the finest talents in the country including the superstar Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Jaideep Ahlawat among many others. 

The new comedy thriller Govinda Naam Mera, jointly produced by Viacom18 Studios, Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, also features Sayaji Shinde, Dayanand Shetty, Renuka Shahane and Amey Wagh. It is releasing on December 16 on Disney+ Hotstar.
