Jalsa and Darlings actor Shefali Shah is known to be outspoken. The actor, whose character in the 2001 film Monsoon Wedding was sexually abused as a child, recently revealed in a podcast that she was once "touched inappropriately" in a busy market.

She also spoke about why she chose to remain silent.

Speaking to Smita Prakash in an ANI podcast, Shefali, speaking about Monsoon Wedding, recalled feeling like "crap" and "shameful" after the incident.

Shefali said, "I remember walking in a crowded market and being touched inappropriately and feeling crap about it. And, never ever saying anything because I wouldn’t say it was guilt but it’s just… shameful."

Asked if she was worried that she wondered that she did anything to invite this, Shefali said, "A lot of people think, 'Did I do anything?' You feel guilty, shameful and you feel ‘bhool jao (forget it). Shove-it-under-the-carpet kind of thing’."

The actor admitted that she hadn't given the incident much thought or considered it a conversation that was important enough to be had. The only reason she spoke about it was because it was "something that struck straight inside me and the entire film."

Shefali was last seen in the 2022 films Jalsa, Darlings, and Doctor G.
