The making of Shekar has been a rollercoaster ride for the Rajashekar-Jeevitha family. Firstly, Rajashekar got infected with COVID just when the film was to take off and later, the director was changed impromptu and the budget shot up a great deal. The post-production took its own time and after its theatrical release on May 20, got decent reviews too.

Yet, there was an ugly twist in the tale when the star couple faced legal trouble when a case was filed against them in relation to a debt settlement and Shekar’s theatrical screening was halted abruptly. As a result, the film couldn’t make much use of its first weekend at the box office. The legal team of the couple pulled all the stops to negotiate the issue and get the film back in theatres yesterday evening.

The trouble began for the Shekar team when a petition was initiated by financier Parandhama Reddy in a city civil court. The producer of the film Beeram Sudhakar Reddy has said that they can't let the fortunes of Shekar go for a toss to settle what's essentially a personal issue between the couple and the petitioner. He claims when there's no connection between the issue and the film, what's the point of stopping the screening?

The producers of Shekar, Beeram Sudhakar Reddy and Jeevitha are set to brief the media today about the entire issue. More details about the case are expected to be shared in the press meet. Shekar, the Malayalam remake of Joseph, directed by Jeevitha Rajashekar features Rajashekar, Muskaan Khubchandani, Athmiya Rajan and Shivani Rajashekar in prominent roles. Anup Rubens has scored the music.
