After several delays, actor Rajashekar's 91st film, Shekar, is gearing up for a release. The film, a remake of the Malayalam film Joseph, is a cop drama directed by Jeevitha Rajashekar (who has also come up with the screenplay), the better half of the veteran actor. Rajashekar is sharing screenspace with his daughter Shivani Rajashekar for the first time in his career and the latter will also play his on-screen daughter. Shekar is set to hit theatres on May 20, the makers announced recently.

Shekar is jointly bankrolled by Beeram Sudhakara Reddy, Shivani Rajashekar, Shivathmika Rajashekar, and Boggaram Venkata Srinivas under Pegasus Cinecorp, Taurus Cinecorp, Sudhakar Impex IPL, and Tripura Creations. The drama is presented by Vankayalapati Murali Krishna. Muthyala Ramdass of Venkata Sai Films has acquired the overall distribution rights for the film. Cinematographed by Mallikarjun Naragani, the film has music by Anup Rubens. Lakshmi Bhupala has penned the dialogues with Sampath handling art direction.

Aathmeeya Rajan and 'George Reddy' fame Muskaan Kubchandani play the female leads while the film also features Abhinav Gomatam, Kannada Kishore, Sameer, Bharani, Ravi Varma, Shravan Raghavendra and others in crucial roles. The film hogged the limelight recently for an arrest warrant in reference to its director Jeevitha and she has clarified that her legal team was responding to the incident and that the verdict about the same would be out soon.

The makers assure that this is the best film in the career of Rajashekar, who has several hits like Gorintaku, Akka Mogudu, Maa Annayya, Simharasi under his belt. The team including actors Sameer, Bharani Shankar, Ravi Varma, cinematographer Mallikarjun Naragani, distributor Muthyala Ramdass lavished praise on Jeevitha Rajashekar's directorial capabilities and called her a taskmaster.
