Shekhar Kapur, best known for directing famous Bollywood films namely Masoom (1983), Mr India (1987), and Bandit Queen (1994), is now eagerly looking forward to launching his daughter Kaveri as an actor in Masoom… The New Generation, a follow-up to his directorial debut Masoom. Shekhar Kapur is presently 78 years old and feels confident that his daughter Kaveri, 22, is ready to enter the world of Indian cinema.
How does Kaveri feel about the news?
Speaking at India’s Cinevesture International Film Festival in Chandigarh, Kaveri Kapur told her father that she is excited to discover human nature through this project. “I think you have the most honest explorations of human nature. And to me, that’s what fascinated me about acting. That’s why I get so excited. It just feels like I’m discovering human nature and what drives us and the dark parts of us and I think that you explore that in the most realistic way possible I have ever seen,” she told him.
Elaborating on why she connected with the subject of the film, Kaveri said that she faced several mental health issues in the past, following which she felt that the story needed to be told to the world.
Masoom, for the unfamiliar, shows how a blissful family's unity is disrupted when the father brings home his nine-year-old illegitimate son, born from a brief affair. The wife is shattered by her husband's infidelity. But as the young boy's innocent presence touches her heart, she grapples with the challenges of accepting this unexpected turn in her life.
Who is Kaveri?
In 1997, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur tied the knot with actress and singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. In 2001, they gave birth to their daughter, Kaveri, in London. However, after a few years, their marriage faced difficulties, and in 2007, the couple decided to separate from each other. The couple raised their child with mutual understanding.
In the early 1990s, Shekhar was believed to be dating Shabana Azmi.
