Pankaj Tripathi’s wife Mridula will be seen in a cameo in Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga, the actor has revealed. His wife will be seen as a Bengali character in the film that is directed by Srijit Mukherji. The film that delves into the man-animal conflict and government corruption will hit the theatre on June 24. Sherdil also features Neeraj Kabi and Sayani Gupta in the lead. 

Elaborating on Mridula’s debut, Pankaj shared that director Srijit Mukherji requested his wife to come on the sets and promised to offer her a role in a scene. The actor further explained that Mridula, who is also a Bengali, immediately agreed to the proposal. Pankaj also revealed that his wife didn’t even ask to be paid. “She immediately said yes because she got to wear a beautiful Bengali saree in the film. It was an easy bribe, she didn't even get paid,” Pankaj told India Today.  

Pankaj married his childhood sweetheart Mridula in 2004 when both were in school. They met at a family wedding. Pankaj has always expressed his deep love for Kolkata, its culture and food. During Sherdil’s promotion, the actor was seen enjoying roadside phuchka near Victoria Memorial in Kolkata on Monday. In several interviews, the actor said how he is royally treated in Bengal because of his ‘jamaibabu’ status. In an interview with us, he mentioned that at the shooting of Sherdil, the unit used to treat him with Bengali food.

Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga delves into the reality of a village that is adjacent to a reserve forest. Wild animals often ruin the farmland and properties of the poor villagers. Pankaj plays the character of Gangaram, who is the sarpanch of the village. Because of the corruption at government offices, the villagers cannot get the allotted money. That is when Gangaram decides to enter the forest to become a prey for tigers so that the compensation of Rs 10 lakh comes to the village
