Ahead of the Karnataka Chief Minister’s visit to the Mysuru Dasara, explosive events unfold at a police station on the Karnataka-Kerala border, which puts the station under lockdown. Widely considered a neglected station where officers are shunted to when they fall out of favour of their superiors – that’s the Pushpagiri station. It’s also where a lot of police brutality unfolds. There’s a thin line between corruption and integrity here, which is what the focus of debutant director Pradeep Arsikere’s film Shesha 2016 is.
The film, starring Pramod Shetty, Archana Kottige, Sridhar, Sreejith Ravi, Sai Bhairava, Dinesh Mangalore, Yash Shetty, John Kaipallil, Devaraj Siddharth Siva, Dain Davis, among others, is scheduled to hit theatres on March 6, ahead of which the team dropped a thrilling trailer. The film had been announced as a Kannada-Malayalam bilingual and features actors from Mollywood. The team has confirmed that both versions will release theatrically. Interestingly, the team has also been able to lock its OTT partner business before the release, with Amazon Prime Video the chosen destination.
Pramod, for whom cop characters are quite common place, has said that what appealed to him about the script of Shesha 2016 was that the story revolves around events occurring around a police station on one particular night and follows how the officers on duty respond to these circumstances. “Normally, police procedurals revolve around a crime and the investigation into it; Shesha 2016 differed on this account. Also, this subject is a lot like Bell Bottom, which went on to become a big hit. I have the same confidence on this story,” Pramod had said at a recent media briefing.

Shot over 35 days, the film, adds Pramod, is a tribute to the police force. Music is by Poornachandra Tejaswi. Director Pradeep, who also wrote the story is a former government employee with the electricity board.
