Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee team up again for Arindam Bhattacharya’s political thriller Shibpur. Produced by Sandeep Sarkar and Ajanta Sinha Roy of Indo-Americana Production, the film will be released on May 5.
Based on real-life events, the film delves into the 1980s Shibpur – a locality in Howrah that is a stone's throw away from the heart of Kolkata. Shibpur used to be infamous for rampant criminal activities. During that period, chief minister Jyoti Basu appointed a strong IPS officer to control the law and order situation.
In the film, Parambrata will be seen as an IPS officer and Swastika will be seen as a woman who rose from an ordinary housewife to a notorious lady mafia gang leader. Besides, the film also features Mamata Shankar, Susmita Chatterjee, Rajatava Dutta, Kharaj Mukherjee, and Sujan Neel Mukhopadhyay.
Shibpur progresses from the perspective of a political journalist associated with a leading daily in Kolkata. They found an interesting story about a woman who dominated the area for a long time but went missing in the late 90s and was never found. An IPS officer was appointed by the then CM to bring the law and order situation under control and played a vital role in bringing stability to the district after a lot of bloodsheds. The film delves into the disappearance of the woman. Did her rival groups kill her? Or was there a dark political play behind her disappearance?
