It’s been 2 decades since Shilpa Shetty was last seen in Kannada cinema. The actress was introduced in Sandalwood by Crazy Star Ravichandran in 1998’s Preethsod Thappa and didn’t return again until 2003’s Ondagona Baa, yet again with the actor. Her last was 2005’s Upendra-led Auto Shankar. In 2025, she returns with KD The Devil, a film directed by showman filmmaker Prem S, which, incidentally, also has her debut hero Ravichandran onboard. While the makers have not revealed if Shilpa and Ravichandran share screen space in the film, she’s been more than happy about her Kannada cinema comeback being with him.
Shilpa, though, says that when she was first approached for a role in the film, she had no intention of taking it up, but now, looking back, she says that she was destined to do it. At the time, the actress was nursing a broken leg and was wheelchair bound. Doing the film would entail travel to Bengaluru and Mysuru where it was being shot, which she was not keen on.
“I was very fortunate that Prem sir had that confidence and pushed me to take up the role. When he came to narrate the film to me two and a half years ago, I’d been working a lot and was not keen on leaving my kids behind to head to Bengaluru and Mysuru for the schedules. He insisted that I hear the script once, especially my role in it and that I could say no thereafter,” she said.

The actress adds that by the time he’d narrated till the interval block, she almost forgot she had a fracture and stood up. “I slumped back and told him that for this scene I want to do this film. Satyavathi is that kind of character. I feel so happy that the film manifested itself for me and I got the opportunity to again pair up with Sanju (Sanjay Dutt),” Shilpa said.
KD-The Devil is led by Action Prince Dhruva Sarja and working with him was a pleasant surprise for Shilpa, who was all praise for his talent. “Kannada cinema will see a different side to Dhruva in KD,” she stated.
