Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko and the producers of Boomerang, Ajji Medayyil and Thoufeek R, lashed out against Samyuktha during a press meet in Kochi on Monday for not turning up for the film’s promotions.

After an interviewer had asked about Samyuktha dropping her surname, Shine said it won’t benefit her if she dropped Menon or Nair from her name when she doesn’t even turn up for promoting her own movie.

“When someone has taken up a job, the artiste also has the duty to see it through. Why is she not here promoting this movie? How does it matter if she is Nair, Menon, Christian or Muslim? Humans should understand other humans,” said Shine, adding that an artiste’s commitment is what helps in their growth in the industry.

One of the co-producers of the film then proceeded to say that he had reached out to the actress. “Her first answer was that she won’t be doing Malayalam films anymore. Secondly, the films that she is part of now get a massive release. ‘I am doing a Rs 35-crore movie and I have my own career to look after,’ she said,” the producer said.

The producer further stated that Samyuktha, who was last seen in Dhanush's Vaathi, plays the central character in Boomerang, which also has Dain Davis, Chemban Vinod Jose and Baiju Santosh. “She has performed really well and has been extremely cooperative till now,” said the producer.

He, however, also pointed out when an artiste signs up for a movie, there’s a clause in the contract that asks them to present for promotions as well. “When a film gets delayed, it’s not necessary that the artiste’s dates would be available at that time,” said the producer, adding that his team had discussed filing a complaint against the actress at the Kerala Film Producers Association. Samyukta is yet to respond to the comments.

Boomerang, which is helmed by Manu Sudhakaran, is a small-budget movie that was shot during the lockdown and is set for release within the next few weeks.
