National Award-winning actress Neena Gupta, who is the female protagonist in Shiv Shastri Balboa, says she feels overwhelmed when she sees herself on the poster of a film. Speaking at the trailer launch of the film, she raised a point on tagging certain actors as 'supporting actors'. Also present at the trailer launch were Anupam Kher, Nargis Fakhri and Sharib Hashmi, as well as the director of the film, Ajayan Venugopalan.
The actress said, "I am fortunate to get good roles in films. Earlier, my face was not om posters, but with this film, mine and Anupam's faces are very prominent. I play the title character in another film as well. All this makes me feel special. Having said that, I feel that we need to do away with the tag of supporting actor or actress."
She continued, "What is with these tags of comedian actor, villain, or character actor? I mean, how can you say that Panchayat (her web series) is a comedy series? You know what I mean?"
Neena also feels that calling someone a 'character actor' is not appropriate. "What is the point of calling someone a 'character actor'? I will deliver my best performance in whichever role I am playing in a film," she said. She quipped, "I think such tags have something to do with the remuneration. But it is high time we do away with these tags."
Neena plays a house help who hails from Hyderabad and works in the USA Shiv Shastri Balboa. She is stuck in the house of her employer for four years and misses home, which is why she plans on running away to India. But things go wrong and the story of the film starts from there.
Written and directed by Ajayan Venugopalan, and produced by Kishore Varieth, Shiv Shastri Balboa also stars Jugal Hansraj, Anil Joseph and Alison Corriere, among others. It releases in theatres on February 10.
