Dheeren Ramkumar, the son of veteran actor Ramkumar and grandson of late matinee idol Dr Rajkumar, has been eagerly waiting for the release his debut as leading man. The film Shiva 143 has zeroed in on August 26 for its date with audiences, in the run-up to which the team has been giving audiences glimpses of what to expect – the latest being a hero introduction teaser that describes Dheeren’s character as a psycho character.
Shiva143, which is the Kannada remake of the Telugu film RX 100, is a subject that was chosen for Dheeren because the team wanted to launch him with a raw, action-oriented film. Speaking at the character teaser launch, director Anil Kumar said that Shiva 143 was shot and ready for release prior to the pandemic, but was then delayed subsequently, as they waited to figure out a good window to bring it to audiences. “Shiva 143 is a ‘disturbing’ love story. The story is inspired by RX 100, but we have changed the screenplay to suit the sensibilities of Kannada audiences,” he said.
The film was earlier called Daari Tappida Maga, which is also the title of a Dr Rajkumar movie. “We had to change the title because Dr Rajkumar fans thought it was not apt for a raw and massy film like ours,” adds the filmmaker.
Dheeren adds, “The character has a lot of variations and will evoke different emotions in the audience; he can make them cry, feel irritated, or even sympathetic towards him. That’s what I found interesting about this role and why I chose it as my launchpad. In fact, I don’t fancy love stories, per se, yet took up Shiva 143 because it had a lot of intense elements attached to it. I definitely don’t want to be stuck with a certain image and have people saying that I am a mass hero or class hero; I want a blend of both.”
Shiva 143 has music by Arjun Janya and is produced by Jayanna and Bhogendra of Jayanna Combines.
