Kannada cinema’s Century Star Shivarajkumar has often spoken about his immense ‘fanboy’ level admiration for veteran actor Kamal Haasan, even though he’s a close family friend of Superstar Rajinikanth as well. So, it meant a lot to Shivarajkumar, when Kamal reached out to him to enquire about his health, when the Kannada actor was in Miami for surgery to remove and replace a cancerous bladder.
Shivarajkumar, who was last seen in Bhairathi Ranagal, revealed this during the Tamil teaser launch of his upcoming release 45, which marks the directorial debut of music composer Arjun Janya. “Kamal Haasan sir called me when I was recuperating in Miami after my surgery, which was a very touching gesture from my favourite hero. He had heard about my health issue and wanted to enquire about the status. I could tell him that I was cancer-free then, to which he responded that he was overwhelmed with emotion at this news. He said he had tears in his eyes. I can never forget what Kamal Haasan sir said; it will linger in my ears and my heart,” said the actor.
In Chennai to address the media along with co-star and Om director Upendra, Arjun and producer Ramesh Reddy, Shivarajkumar yet again spoke about his great love for Kamal Haasan, whose style of acting he finds immensely inspiring. Shivarajkumar added that if he were a woman, he would have, most definitely married the Tamil star.
In fact, such is his admiration for Kamal, that when Shivarajkumar met him many years ago when the Tamil actor had gone to meet Dr Rajumar, he asked if he could get a hug, which the Tamil star, of course, obliged. “I did not take a bath for the next three days because I wanted his smell and aura to linger on me; that’s the level of fanboy affection I have for him. I would never miss a first-day-first show of his movies,” added Shivarajkumar.
