In the last few days, the team of Duniya Vijay’s Landlord has been trying every trick in the book to drum up excitement around the film, what with audiences not warming up to it yet. This despite the fact that the film received moderate to good reviews, and with a lot of praise coming the way of the lead cast, especially Vijay and Raj B Shetty, who played the lead antagonist. From conducting special shows for scholars, activists and school children, to getting political backing from the chief minister, they are doing all they can to shine the spotlight on the film.
Century Star Shivarajkumar also joined in to support the film and caught a show in Bengaluru, amid his busy schedule. “It’s interesting to see a tale of class conflict set against a rural backdrop. Vijay has tried something new, which was also nice, and reminded me of my film, Vedha. I am quite attached to the role in Vedha,” said the actor, adding that he was impressed that director Jadeshaa was never tempted to go over the top in the presentation of any of his lead characters, including debutante Rithanya’s police constable Bhavya.

Most surprising, he added, was his 45 co-star Raj, whose transformation for Landlord is testimony that an actor can do any kind of role. On a parting note, Shivarajkumar also said that he liked that the team spared no expense even in doing a village-based tale, and ensured that there was subtle grandeur in every frame. “The film is a must watch for youngsters to understand provisions guaranteed under the Constitution,” he said.
Landlord, which released in theatres on January 23, 2026, had a sluggish start at the box office, which picked up over the extended weekend, but then fell again. Compared to Vijay’s underworld films, Landlord has underperformed massively, with many netizens opining that its subject, about oppression of marginalised sections, was the major problem. The film also stars Rachita Ram, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Umashree, Sharath Lohithashwa, Avinash, Bhaavanaa Raaoh, Rakesh Adiga, Abhi Dass, Vajradheer Jain, among others.
