The veteran actress Jaya Prada has been sentenced to imprisonment for six months by a Chennai court. In addition to the imprisonment, the actress and her two business partners have also been imposed a fine of Rs. 5000 each. The Chennai court issued the same verdict to both of Jaya Prada’s business partners Ram Kumar and Raja Babu. The reason for the actress’ imprisonment was because she and her two business partners had failed to pay the Employee State Insurance (ESI) dues.

As per the media reports, actress Jaya Prada and her two business partners Ram Kumar and Raja Babu had owned a Chennai based movie theatre (Rayapeta in specific). But the movie theatre had suffered business losses and hence, had to be shut down. The employees who had been working in their theatre had alleged that Jaya Prada hadn't repaid the amount of Employee State Insurance (ESI) amount, which was deducted from their salaries.

This was followed by the Labour Government Insurance Corporation (LGIC), then, taking up the case against actress Jaya Prada and her two business partners Ram Kumar, and Raja Babu. After a series of legal proceedings which took place, the Chennai based Egmore Magistrate Court pronounced the imprisonment of the actress and her two associates, in addition to the amount of Rs. 5000 each.

Media reports also state that, even though Jaya Prada had reportedly acknowledged about the case and had expressed her commitment to clear the pending amount which was due, whiich she and her two business partners had owed to the theatre staff. Post that, the actress had even appealed to the court in order to dismiss the case, but, the court had reportedly denied her plea.
