Shodha actor Anusha Ranganath: It’s rare to get a strong and meaningful character

It’s been nearly 4 years since Anusha Ranganath was last seen onscreen. She’d been paired with Vinay Rajkumar in the sports drama 10, directed by cinematographer-filmmaker Karm Chawla. The film was released with zilch promotions and then made its way to OTT within a week, where it found an audience, many of who were appreciative of the content and the performances, says Anusha.

The actress will be back this week with the suspense thriller series Shodha , which drops on Z5 (also on OTTplay Premium) on August 29. The 6-episode show directed by Sunil Mysuru and starring filmmaker-actor Pawan Kumar in the lead, has Anusha as a character called Aditi, details of which she is not at liberty to reveal. However, the actress does say that at a time when strong meaningful female characters continue to remain a rarity, she’s managed to get one with substance in Shodha.

While the trailer also does not shed much light on Anusha’s role, the impression is that it is central to the plotline. The story revolves around Pawan’s character Rohit, a lawyer, whose wife Meera goes missing. But when Meera returns a couple of days later, he says that the woman in his house, played by Siri Ravikumar, is not his wife, but an imposter. Why would someone go to such lengths to create a false narrative? Who is this Meera and what is her motive? Is Rohit telling the truth or is he losing his marbles?

Why was Anusha missing from showbiz so long though? Speaking to FDFS Kannada, the actress said that while she’s been dabbling with advertisement shoots, she’s had a few film offers since 10, some of which she could not do owing to other prior commitments, while the rest did not have anything meaty in them for her to get excited. “I didn’t see the point in being a part of these films. Also, it is said that roles destined for you will find their way to you; Shodha is one such and I believe I have done justice to the opportunity that was presented to me,” she says.
