It’s been nearly four years since Kannada cinema tragically lost Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar. And in all this time, one question that filmmaker-actor Pawan Kumar has not been able to dodge is if and when he will ever revive the project he’d planned for Puneeth – Dvitva. Pawan was set to direct Puneeth as soon as he’d wound up his ongoing project at the time, James, but that was not to be.

Initially, it was said that since Dvitva was a subject that Puneeth had liked and okayed, it would never see the light of day, but then there were murmurs that the filmmaker ought to revive it with Yuva Rajkumar, the late actor’s nephew, who’s widely seen as the next-gen artiste from the family to follow in Puneeth’s footsteps. On his part, Pawan had not ruled out making the film, but only when he finds the right actor to lead it.

During the promotions of his latest web series Shodha, in which Pawan plays the lead role, he was, yet again, asked about Dvitva and this time it seemed that he has a far more concrete plan in mind. Conversations around Dvitva have been ongoing, he admits and adds that now the discussions have centred on whether it can be turned into a series, because it offers itself to be that as well. A final call on the format is yet to be made, but a lot will also rest on the actors who will be willing to pick it up.

Having said that, Pawan adds that in a few years he may feel that the subject is dated and may not return to it after all. But if Pawan’s history of attachment to his stories is anything to go by – Dhoomam is a subject he carried around for a decade before finally making it as a film – Dvitva is unlikely to be kept shut away.
Right now, though, Pawan’s busy with the promotions of Shodha, a show on which he has also served as script doctor to elevate it as best as could be. It’s a project he’s been busy with over the last 4 months. Pawan plays Rohit, a lawyer whose wife Meera goes missing, but when she returns a couple of days later, he claims that the woman in his house is an imposter. Is she really making up an elaborate tale and to what end or has Rohit lost his marbles? Find out when Shodha drops on Z5 via OTTplay on August 29.
