The shoot for Silambarasan's long-delayed Pathu Thala has resumed at Bellary Palace in Karnataka. Silambarasan officially announced the comThe mencement of the shoot by sharing two pictures from the sets. While Silambarasan is seen lounging in a chair in one of them, another one has him keenly looking at something. He captioned it, "Shooting in progress…. 🎥#PathuThala (sic)." The shoot is going on at a brisk pace and it looks like it might hit screens by the end of the year, as announced earlier on December 14. Pathu Thala is directed by Obeli N Krishna of Sillunnu Oru Kadhal fame.

The film is a remake of the Kannada thriller, Mufti (2017), which was directed by debutante Narthan, and was billed as a neo-noir action thriller. The Kannada version features Shiva Rajkumar, Srimurali and Shanvi Srivastava. The plot revolves around a police officer, who takes on a powerful don. The film went on to become a huge success at the box office.

The Tamil version has Silambarasan TR sharing screen space with Gautham Karthik for the first time. While Gautham is said to be playing a cop in the film, STR will essay the role of the gangster. The star cast also includes Priya Bhavani Shankar, who plays the leading lady, along with Kalaiarasan, Manushiyaputhiran and Teejay Arunasalam.

Music is by AR Rahman. Pathu Thala marks the reunion of Obeli Krishna with Oru Kadhal. Cinematography is by Farook J Basha and editing by Praveen KL.

The shoot for Pathu Thala had been put on hold as Silambarasan had to fly down to the US to take care of his father's medical treatment. Simbu's father, veteran actor-director T Rajendher had had bleeding in his stomach and had to undergo advanced medical treatment. Now, that the shoot is on brisk pace, it is expected that the film might keep its date with the theatres.
