The second instalment of Suni’s film is unlikely to be a Dasara release, as he’d said earlier.

In early May, when the first part of the Sharan-starrer Avatara Purusha came to theatres, the question on everyone’s mind was as to when the second instalment would come out. During a social media live to promote the film, Sharan and director Suni discussed the same, at which time, the filmmaker had said that he was targeting a Dasara release because his movie is quite VFX heavy, a time-consuming aspect of the post-production.
However, later rumours emerged that the shoot would be delayed owing to a funding crunch at the production house’s end. At the time, Suni had said that work on Avatara Purusha 2 was on track and that he was waiting for Sharan to finish Guru Shishyaru and remove the moustache he had grown out. The filmmaker had said that about 85% of the film is complete. A source tells us that the production house has found new investors and that the shooting will resume soon.
However, the latest we hear is that Suni will resume shooting only after Guru Shishyaru releases in theatres. The makers have not yet announced a release date for the Jadeesha K Hampi directorial, but it is rumoured to be targeting mid-September. Suni is also working on his next, Gatha Vaibhava, which is the debut vehicle of Dushyanth, the son of MLA SR Srinivas. The filmmaker has just announced Ashika Ranganath, his Avatara Purusha heroine, as the leading lady of Gatha Vaibhava too.
If Guru Shishyaru is September 16 release, as is being rumoured, it is unlikely that Suni can resume Avatara Purusha 2 until after Dasara, or even Diwali, for that matter. In which case, the earliest they will resume is probably mid-October. The best-case scenario, right now, is that Avatara Purusha will be an early 2023 release.
Avatara Purusha 1 had ended with a major twist in the story, so audiences have been looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds. Looks like they have a longer wait after all.
