Song Hye-kyo has been making headlines for two reasons in the recent past. Her movie Dark Nuns which managed to overshadow even Lee Dong-wook and Hyun Bin's Harbin at the Box Office is one, and that she is collaborating with Gong Yoo in the series Show Business which is set in the Entertainment world of the 60s, is another. Hye-kyo now desires to rewind time in a sense and venture into the rom-coms again. She wants to bring back something like Full House, and has hinted at it in her recent interview. Here's what she said...
Expressing her desire to work in Full House-esque rom-com series to Vogue Hong Kong, the actress said, "I have fond memories of filming Full House. At that time, director Pyo Min-su encouraged all of us to have fun, so there was a lot of ad-libbing and I have great memories from it. Since then, I’ve not had the chance to work in the light romantic comedy genre, so if there’s a realistic and witty comedy that suits someone in their 40s, I would love to try it."
Never shying away from talking about her upcoming project opposite Gong Yoo, Hye-kyo further opened up about her Show Business character. She spilled that her role of Min-ja is that of someone who went through many hardships in childhood. It is thanks to the life experience that she has an inner core stronger than anyone else's. Hye-kyo reveals that Min-ja saw an opportunity in the Korean music industry and decided to take a leap of faith. The show in itself is set in Korea of 60s-80s, where the industry was still up and coming.
As for Hye-kyo as a person, she confesses that while her past self has been one to put others above herself, she is anything but that in the present. Once she put herself first, the actress felt more at calm, she confessed. "Thinking about myself has brought me a sense of calm, and I’ve even found that I can approach others with being more relaxed. I suppose I could say that by embracing myself, I’ve become stronger on the inside," Hye-kyo expressed.
In the same interview, Hye-kyo shared that while she could feel that sister Junia from Dark Nuns was someone who had a lot of conviction and boldness in the face of making brave choices, it was not her. However, when Hye-kyo the actor started to understand Junia, she could not just relate but turned into the very character. Before filming began, the actress believed that she couldn't do something the way her character did. After filming though, she knew that she would respond exactly like Junia. Even if taxing, the reason for Hye-kyo choosing the project was the exorcism scene. It was something she had never explored before and the actor in her was excited to try it out. On the sets, though, she confessed that the scene, despite being physically demanding, came naturally to her. With it, Dark Nuns mesmerized the viewers and now, Hye-kyo is gearing up for Show Business, scheduled for Netflix release towards the end of 2025.
