The Walking Dead (Netflix)

AMC’s The Walking Dead is the most obvious choice for this list. Based on the graphic novels by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, the series redefined the zombie genre and broke several viewership records and aired its eleventh and final season in 2022. The story follows many struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. The series stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Laura Cohan, and Jeffery Dean Morgan in lead roles.

Snowpiercer (Netflix)

Featuring a star-studded ensemble of Jennifer Connelly, Sean Bean, Daveed Diggs, and Mickey Sumner in prominent roles, Snowpiercer is a dystopian thriller series. The series is a reboot of the 2013 eponymous film starring Chris Evans, and is helmed by Parasite director Bong Joon-ho. It is adapted from the French graphic novel by Jacques Lob titled Le Transperceneige and narrates the story of people living on a perpetually-moving train in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

All of Us Are Dead (Netflix)

K-dramas have become very popular across the globe in recent years and the zombie-apocalypse series All of Us Are Dead has garnered a cult following. The series follows a group of high school students who are trapped in ground zero of a zombie virus outbreak. The series stars Park Ji-hu, Yoon Chan-young, Cho Yi-hyun, Lomon, among others in prominent roles.

Colony (Netflix)

The 2016 TV series Colony is a dystopian thriller set in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. In the aftermath of an alien invasion, human beings are governed by an organisation called the Transitional Authority, a military regime that serves as wardens for alien beings who are simply known as the hosts. Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies essay lead roles in the series, and it is helmed by Carlton Cuse and Ryan J. Condal.

The 100 (Netflix)

The 100 is set 97 years after a nuclear war wipes out nearly the entire population on earth. The few who survived the nuclear war on a spaceship, send 100 youngsters back to earth, in an attempt to re-cultivate human civilisation on the planet. The series stars Eliza Taylor, Bob Morley, and Marie Avgeropoulos in lead roles.

The Last Ship (Prime Video)

Adapted from William Brinkley’s eponymous novel, The Last Ship focuses on those aboard the naval destroyer who come to realise that most of the global population have been wiped out by a mysterious global pandemic. They must now cope with the reality of their situation as they struggle to survive. Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra, and Adam Baldwin essay the lead roles in this series.
