According to Mid-day in March, The Immortals of Meluha, the first book in the Shiva Trilogy, is going to be adapted into a web series by filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. Now, one learns that the casting procedure has begun for the team. Kriti Sanon and Shraddha Kapoor are reportedly vying for the role of Sati, the Meluhan princess and protagonist Shiva's love interest.
Sati's casting is significant to the series because she plays such an important role in Shiva's journey. A source told the tabloid that the creators had had elaborate discussions with Kriti and Shraddha over the past two months. Both actors have had physical examinations. Because the web series requires a large number of dates, their shoot schedules will have to be taken into account while making a decision. Above all, Sati's casting will be determined by who plays Shiva. The search for the male lead has begun.
Suparn S Varma, of The Family Man 2 fame, serves as showrunner and director for the series, which is International Art Machine's maiden production.
When Karan Johar bought the adaptation rights to Amish Tripathi's bestseller The Immortals of Meluha in 2012, he created a stir in Bollywood. However, the adaptation was never made, and Johar's remake rights expired in 2017. Every story, though, has a conclusion. Tripathi's Shiva Trilogy appears to be destined for the big screen.
Earlier, in a statement, Varma told the tabloid that the Meluha trilogy is a seminal work in the genre. From the initial conversation, the Amish and he were on the same page. The writer's ambition shines through in the book, and Varma is honoured to be entrusted with bringing his epic to life on film.
"Shekhar Kapur is a film school," he says of the project, which brings him together with one of his inspirations. Varma added that working with the filmmaker will take one on a voyage of discovery about life, the world we live in, and the one we want to build.
