Every film has a unique journey and has a nostalgia factor attached to it over the years. Yet, nothing works, entertains us more than an out-and-out Rajinikanth film and this is exactly what director Shankar's first collaboration with the star, Sivaji (The Boss), turned out to be. The film recently completed 14 years of its release and it's leading leady Shriya Saran, in a special episode shot for Netflix, went back in time to discuss how she landed the project and revisited some of its most iconic comedy, action sequences.
The actress reportedly approached director Shankar about her interest to work with him for a long time and said yes to Sivaji without even knowing that it would star Rajinikanth. Yes, even during the pooja ceremony of the film, Shriya presumed that Rajinikanth was a chief guest at the event and was shocked/surprised beyond wits to know that she would share screen space opposite the super-star. In the famous sequence where Rajini eats a series of chillies at Shriya's house in the film, the actress said that the star ate chillies for real on sets, throwing light on his passion to do anything and everything for cinema.
Also in the sequence when Rajini and Vivek would pose as government officers at Shriya's house, the actress was endlessly laughing on the sets, so much that she was told to 'shut up' by the director Shankar himself. From the scene where Rajinikanth spots her at a temple to grooving to Ra Ra from Chandramukhi and getting caught by a CBI officer at the temple, the actress was all nostalgic looking back at Sivaji. Reportedly, the entire temple sequence wasn't shot in Tamil Nadu but Delhi given it was practically impossible for the star to shoot amidst the fan frezy in the state.
The most entertaining segment of the episode was reserved for the last few minutes, where the host Kishen Das and Shriya Saran reenacted the famous dialogues from the film after a 'helium challenge' of sorts where they had funny voices after blowing up a balloon. All in all, it was a genuinely humourous attempt on the part of Netflix to talk about and promote Sivaji.
