Santhosh Gopal's romantic comedy Shubhamangala, which was released in theatres in October 2022, is now out on OTT. The film, starring Siddhaartha Maadhyamika, Hitha Chandrashekar and Meghana Gaonkar, premiered on MX Player on November 4, 2023, and is now available to stream.

Upon its release, Shubhamangala received mixed reviews but critics and audiences alike praised the unique setup of the film, whose narrative unfolds during the 12 hours leading up to a wedding. What happens when Shiva, the groom, receives a wedding proposal from a woman while his to-be wife stands right next to him? And to make things more interesting, the woman making the proposal is someone he has fancied for a very long time.

Santhosh Gopal's film casts a light on Shiva's rather bizarre dilemma while also introducing us to several other 'colourful' characters from the wedding. As the central plot develops at its own pace, a few new love stories brew on the side to make things more interesting and to add to the overall drama. Hitha Chandrashekar, as the bride, won praise for her subtle yet effective performance with the rest of the cast including Rakesh Maiya, Deepthi Nagendra, Aditi Ram, GopalKrishna Deshpande, Bindu Raxidi, Aruna Balraj, Babu Hiranayya and others functioning well as an ensemble.

Rakesh B Raj serves as the cinematographer with Judah Sandhy scoring the music and Avyakta Films producing the film.

As far as the film's box office run is concerned, Shubhamangala was among the many unlucky projects that got caught in the pandemic trap and resultantly, had a slightly delayed release. Yet, the film would arrive in theatres (on October 14) when the Kantara wave was sweeping up the entire nation. That, combined with the slightly underwhelming audience response, Santhosh Gopal's film could not yield great results at the box office.
