National Award-winning director Shyamaprasad’s films have always found takers in the festival circuit and his latest Kasiminte Kadal too has evoked a lot of interest from critics and film aficionados. The movie, which is based on Anees Salim’s novel The Small-Town Sea, will be screened at the Indian Film Festival Stuttgart in July.

Starring Harish Uthaman and Arya Salim, the film revolves around a father and a son duo who relocate from a bustling city to the former’s coastal hometown as per his last wish. While their adventures together make the father relive his past, the son grapples with new and unexpected challenges after the former passes away.

The movie, which has Harish playing Salim and Tashi Shamdat essaying the role of 11-year-old Kasim, was shot in the picturesque locations of Varkala. Manoj Narayan is the cinematographer of the film, which has Ranganath Ravee and Aravind Manmadhan as its sound designer and editor, respectively.

Shyamaprasad’s Ore Kadal, which had Mammootty and Meera Jasmine in the lead, had won the German Star prize at the Stuttgart International film festival back in 2008. The current and 19th edition of the Indian Film Festival Stuttgart will run from July 20 to July 24. Kasiminte Kadal has been picked by the organisers of the film fest as its official selection.

Prior to Kasiminte Kadal, Shyamaprasad’s Oru Njayarazhcha had won the Kerala State Film Award for the Second Best Film last year. Just like in the film, the filmmaker has also composed the music for Kasiminte Kadal.

Meanwhile, the filmmaker has also wrapped up shooting for a segment in the upcoming Netflix anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short stories. His featurette is based on MT’s Kazhcha and has Parvathy Thiruvothu and the legendary writer’s wife Kalamandalam Saraswathi as part of its lead cast.
