Veteran filmmaker Sibi Malayil expressed his joy at the upcoming 4K rerelease of Mohanlal's Devadoothan in theatres. He was speaking at the press meet to promote Indrajith Sukumaran’s upcoming romantic comedy drama, Marivillin Gopurangal.

Although he acknowledged that he does not know much about the re-release's details, he gave his word that an updated and crisp version of the movie will be hitting the big screen. “Like the fans of the film, I am eagerly awaiting more updates,” the director said.

Producer Siyad Koker asserted during the same press conference that the movie was well ahead of its time and that viewers enjoy seeing it whenever it airs on television. "People have been asking me all the time when the movie is coming back, and we are going to release a version that will be appealing to audiences even today," he continued.

The producer went on to say that an extensive release is not planned until they have determined whether the film can still draw crowds to theatres.

All about Mohanlal’s Devadoothan

The mystery thriller stars Mohanlal, Jaya Prada, Janardhanan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Vijayalakshmi, Murali, and Vineeth Kumar in prominent roles. Although it failed to make an impact at the box office upon its release in 2000, Devadoothan managed to win over viewers over time.

Raghunath Paleri had penned the screenplay for the film. Vidyasagar composed the original score and soundtracks for this movie, which receives huge praise from the audience even today.

The film revolves around the life of Vishal Krishnamoorthy, who endured expulsion from college for playing the musical instrument known as Seven Bells—an offence for which he was not guilty. His brilliant and promising future was derailed by the incident.

The principal of the college extends an invitation to him years later to oversee a musical event that will be presented there. Returning, Vishal sets out to solve the riddle of the Seven Bells, which he says can play by itself.
