Hollywood almost came to a standstill owing to the months-long strike announced by the Writers Guild of America. As the staring contest between the writers' union, and the studios escalated over the last five months, many new productions suffered a setback. And Sicario 3 was one of them.

In a recent interview, producer Basil Iwanyk confirmed that the filmmakers have struck upon an "awesome" idea for the third instalment of the Sicario series. And he noted that writing the movie's screenplay will resume as soon as the strike ends.

Sicario 3 is happening

"I can't wait for Sicario 3. I could watch Benicio play that guy forever. I mean, I can watch Benicio in anything, but with that character, it doesn't get old," Basil Iwanyk told The Messenger.

Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro is a permemant part of the Sicario cast. He essays the role of a former Mexican prosecutor, who becomes an assassin with the help of the CIA.

In the 2015 smash hit Sicario, we learn that Benicio's Alejandro Gillick joins the USA's war on drugs to take revenge against the drug cartels for killing his family.

Written by Taylor Sheridan, the movie was masterfully brought to life on the screen by Denis Villeneuve of Dune fame. The movie won the coveted Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and also became a big hit at the box office that year. The movie also went on to win three Oscar nominations. Besides Benicio, Emily Blunt, and Josh Brolin also played leading roles in it.

For Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Taylor Sheridan joined hands with Italian director Stefano Sollima. The follow-up movie further examined the war on drugs at the US-Mexican border.
