Sidlingu 2, the sequel to the 2012 state award winning coming-of-age film, brought director Vijay Prasad back with leading man Yogi. Sonu Gowda stepped in as the leading lady in the sequel, which released in theatres in February 2025. Prior to the release, director Vijay Prasad had been very vocal about rectifying the mistakes of his duds, Thothapuri 1 and 2 and Petromax, all of which were films that mixed adult comedy with philosophical ideologies.
The result, though, was far from exciting, with critics panning the film. Surprisingly, though, despite the below average theatrical reception, Sidlingu 2 has managed to make it to OTT, a luxury that most Kannada films do not enjoy. As of July 4, 2025, Sidlingu 2 is available on Amazon Prime Video, but whether or not it is an exclusive deal with the platform will be revealed shortly.
Sidlingu 2 had Yogi in the title role yet again, and explores his obsession for cars, especially one particular vintage vehicle. While the original perfectly blended adult comedy and philosophy, and went on to win a state film award, Vijay Prasad reportedly failed to recreate that magic the second time around.
In the film, Sidlingu (Yogi) sets out on a new journey, crossing paths with a grave digger named Seethamma (Padmaja Rao), her daughter Mini Mini, her troubled son Ananda aka Hale Bevarsi, and her husband (Manjunath Hegde). He also gets a rather generous offer from his boss, including a house and a car, for a chance to start over.
He finds love in government school teacher Niveditha (Sonu), who reminds him of Mangala (Ramya) from the original tale, but then, his peace is disrupted when he comes across the car he once hoped to own.
Sidlingu 2 is the latest film that’s dropped on Prime Video, apart from Yuddhakaanda Chapter 2, Firefly, Manada Kadalu, Vaamana, Mithya, among others.
