Speculations are rife that the shoot of Silambarasan TR's upcoming film Pathu Thala is likely to resume in July. The shoot for the film, directed by Obeli N Krishna of Sillunnu Oru Kadhal fame, has been stalled for now, as the actor is in the US for his father, actor-producer-director T Rajendher's medical treatment.
Doctors had detected bleeding in the stomach of the veteran actor and had advised the family to undergo advanced treatment. Following the advice, STR had flown in advance to the US to make the arrangements for his father's procedure. Though the family had tried to kept the news under wraps, the news of TR's hospitalisation got leaked on social media, after which STR released a statement on his health condition. It is said that STR will be back in Chennai by July and then the shoot will resume.
Pathu Thala is a remake of the Kannada film Mufti (2017), a neo-noir action thriller, which was directed by Narthan. The film marked his directorial debut and the star cast includes Shiva Rajkumar, Srimurali and Shanvi Srivasatava. The plot for the film revolves around a police officer, who takes on a don essayed by Shivanna. Mufti went on to become a huge success at the box office.
The Tamil version has Gautham Karthik sharing screen space with Silambarasan TR. While Gautham will play the cop, Silambarasan TR will play the role portrayed by Shiva Rajkumar. While Gautham has wrapped up his portions, his combination scenes with STR and STR's portions remain pending to be shot. Interstingly, this os the first time that the duo are coming together for a film.
The star cast also includes Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kalaiarasan, Manushiyaputhiran and Teejay Arunasalam. The film marks the reunion of Obeli Krishna with AR Rahman after a gap of 15 years after their last outing Sillunu Oru Kadhal. The film is expected to hit screens for Christmas.
