British actor Simone Ashley is all praises for her Bridgerton character Kate Sharma who is not afraid to break the rules. Ashley plays the eldest of the Sharma sisters in Bridgerton season 2, which is a sequel to the first season. It was aired on Netflix on March 25, 2022.
As per a report on The Times of India, appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 27-year-old British actress told guest host Tiffany Haddish that she liked the fact that her character Kate Sharma was bold and outspoken. “She isn’t afraid of posing as someone opinionated and doesn’t shy away from breaking the rules,” she said.
Ashley was involved in a love triangle in the period drama with Lord Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey and Edwina Sharma, played by Charithra Chandran. However, she wanted to stay committed to her sisterly demands and be true to them.
The Bridgerton actress stated that Kate was meant to look after Edwina and protect her. Being her older sister, she wanted to maintain the same throughout.
Ashley has been enjoying the limelight she received since Bridgerton 2’s release. She confesses that being cast in the Shonda Rhimes show was all but a whirlwind! One week she was sending her self-recorded tapes and by the next, she was called for a chemistry test with Jonathan Bailey.
The actor recalled how everyone was excited about the show and would always question her about the same. This made it hard for Ashley to contain her excitement.
However, now that the show’s season 2 is a massive success, the Bridgerton famed actress is trying to live in the moment and absorb all the fame that is coming her way. She recalls seeing a billboard outside her LA hotel, with her and the other cast’s faces on it and feeling weirdly proud of the whole affair.
A mastermind of Chris Van Husen, Bridgerton season 2 is a story about the eight close-knit siblings of the Bridgerton family looking for love and happiness in London’s high society. Inspired by Julia Quinn's bestselling novels, the series casts Simone Ashley, Jonathan Bailey, Charithra Chandran Adjoa Andoh, Julie Andrews and Lorraine Ashbourne in the lead roles.
