Popular Tamil actor Dhanush, known among Telugu audiences for his performances in like Raghuvaran B Tech, Maryan and the recently released Thiru, forayed into Telugu cinema with Sir. Written and directed by Venky Atluri, the film was simultaneously made in Tamil as Vaathi. S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya produced the film under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas.
Samyuktha Menon played the female lead in the drama that also starred Sai Kumar, Samuthirakani, Narra Srinu, Tanikella Bharani and Hyper Aadhi in key roles. GV Prakash Kumar scored the music for the film which has cinematography by Yuvraj and is presented by Srikara Studios. Streaming giant Netflix has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of Sir. The film is expected to premiere on Netflix in the second half of March/early April.
The story revolves around Balu, a lecturer in a private educational institute, who’s transferred to a village, as part of an initiative to empower government colleges across the state. However, when several students drop out of college while grappling with their daily realities, Balu decides to take charge of the situation and alters the course of their lives. Will he succeed in his pursuit? What’re the challenges he’d have to confront? Will the students live up to his expectations?
Sir and Vaathi released in theatres simultaneously on February 17. A day prior to the film, the makers organised premiers of both the versions across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. The film received many encouraging responses from its premieres and it has helped the bilingual to take off on a strong note at the box office on its opening day.
Pammi Sai, Shara, Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu,Motta Rajendran, Hareesh Peradi and Praveena are among other actors in Sir. Venkat has choreographed the action sequences while Navin Nooli is the editor.
