Sumanth, whose relationship comedy Malli Modalaindi released earlier this year, will be testing new waters as a character artiste in a special role. The actor plays a pivotal part in Sita Ramam, headlined by Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur and directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. The first look and glimpse of the character was out today.
In Sita Ramam, Sumanth is cast as Brigadier Vishnu Sharma. In a strictly formal first look, the actor, sporting a handlebar moustache, appears aptly cast in an intense role, The glimpse also comes with a voice-over where he says, “Konni Yuddhalu Modalu Pettadam Mathrame Mana Chethullo Untundi… Mugimpu Kaadu… This is Brigadier Vishnu Sharma… Madras Regiment…”
The glimpse showcases the Satyam actor smoking a cigarette and speaking on landline phone. The film is set amidst a war backdrop in 1965. Great results come when actors free themselves of barriers and show the willingness to try their hand in uncharted terrains. It looks like Sumanth’s creative choice will pay off with Sita Ramam.
The film that also features Rashmika Mandanna, Gautam Menon, Prakash Raj and Rukmini Vijay Kumar. Vishal Chandrasekhar scores the music while PS Vinod and Shreyaas Krishnan are the cinematographers. The period romance is edited by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao and has production design by Sunil Babu. Ashwini Dutt is bankrolling it under Swapna Cinema.
Sita Ramam will release simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam on August 5. Apart from this, Sumanth’s another project, Aham Reboot, is heading for a direct-to-OTT release. His dark comedy Anaganaga Oka Rowdy is also awaiting release shortly.
