Sita Ramam: Will Gautham Menon pass muster as Major Selvan in his Telugu acting debut?

Director Gautham Vasudev Menon’s popularity as an actor is growing by the day and it’s only right that he makes hay while the sun shines. After a brief appearance in Tharun Bhascker’s Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi, he is set to feature in his first-full fledged role in a Telugu film with Sita Ramam. The war romance starring Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur is directed by Hanu Raghavapudi.

The character poster and glimpse of Gautham Menon’s role in the film were unveiled earlier today. He essays the role of Major Selvan in the same. The name suggests that he plays a Tamil-speaking army officer and the filmmaker looks sharp and aptly cast for the part. Unlike the character promos of Sumanth and Tharun Bhascker from the film, he has no dialogues here.

Sita Ramam has a bevvy of interesting actors including Rashmika Mandanna, Prakash Raj, Bhumika Chawla and Rukmini Vijaykumar. Rashmika plays a Kashmiri girl Afreen in the film. The romance was extensively shot in Kashmir in the middle of a pandemic under challenging circumstances. Two songs from the film and the teaser have received a thumbs-up from netizens.

Vishal Chandrasekhar, who last worked on Varudu Kaavalenu in Telugu, scores the music for the same. Both his songs in Sita Ramam, Oh Rama Hey Sita and Inthandham, have asserted his worth as a melody maker. He has associated with director Hanu Raghavapudi for two other films in the past - Krishnagaadi Veera Prema Gaadha and Padi Padi Leche Manasu. The promo of the third single from the film will be launched tomorrow.

Ashwini Dutt is bankrolling the film under Swapna Cinema, while it’s presented by Vyjayanthi Movies. PS Vinod and Shreyaas Krishnan are the cinematographers for the film edited by veteran Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao. Sunil Babu is the production designer. Sita Ramam will simultaneously release in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam on August 5. This is the second straight Telugu release for Dulquer after Mahanati.
