An issue has arisen with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, just a week before the film is supposed to be released in theatres. The actor-producer and the CBFC are reportedly at odds over proposed changes, leading to a delay in the censor certificate's issuance.
Bollywood Hungama reports that the CBFC has requested two cuts of the film, a move that Aamir Khan strongly disagrees with. The insider informed the entertainment portal that the CBFC has requested two cuts. Without these cuts, Aamir thinks the film should pass. The insider revealed that he and R S Prasanna painstakingly crafted the film. Several situations and lines of conversation make perfect sense when viewed in their proper context.
The film has not yet received its censor certificate because of the disagreement. The insider revealed that Aamir's refusal to accept the cuts prevented Sitaare Zameen Par from receiving the censor certificate. Now the actor is preparing to meet with the CBFC Examining Committee again on Monday to present his case. On June 16, Aamir is hoping the CBFC will approve the film when they find a solution. Once they complete that, they will make the advance booking for the film available. It is against the rules for theatres to sell tickets without a censor certificate.
The film has passed certification in other countries, so it's not all bad. Sitaare Zameen Par has already received a 12A classification from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) in the UK. The film is two hours and 35 minutes long and contains "discrimination and moderate sex references," according to the BBFC website.
On June 20, theatres throughout the world will welcome the film, which also stars Genelia Deshmukh as the female lead and is directed by R S Prasanna.
When Sitaare Zameen Par first got the green light, the goal was to release with fewer screens and depend on word of mouth to expand. Reports indicate that this strategy has been adjusted in light of the strong demand from the exhibition sector. It is now anticipated that the film will premiere in 3000 to 3500 theatres throughout India.
An unusual move in the present digital-first market, Aamir refused to sell the film to any OTT platform before its theatrical debut, adding to the buzz. As its release date draws near, Sitaare Zameen Par has been the subject of much discussion because of its high-profile marketing, the continuing certification issue, and other factors.
