Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan is quite in awe of the directors who made their debut in 2023. He has expressed a keen interest in working with new talents, who can help him to redefine his onscreen image. "I am in talks with all of them. However, I cannot confirm which project will materialize at this moment," said Sivakarthikeyan.

Sivakarthikeyan has listed his favourite movies of 2023 and all of them are helmed by newcomers. He particularly heaped praises on the period drama Yaathisai as he seems to believe that it didn't get its due in terms of commercial and critical recognition.

"Yaathisai was very good. It's an excellent story and it was executed so well on such a small budget. If the director had a budget of Rs 50 crore, he would have created Tamil cinema's own Baahubali. Because that story has all the elements required for a commercial movie," Sivakarthikeyan told Cinema Vikatan.

Here is a list of Sivakarthikeyan's favourite films of 2023:

Yaathisai:

Por Thozhil was one of the biggest commercial and critical success stories of Tamil cinema in 2023. The film stars Sarathkumar, Ashok Selvan and Nikhila Vimal and is directed by Vignesh Raja.

Por Thozhil is streaming on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium.

Starring Kavin and Aparna in the lead roles, Dada is written and directed by Ganesh K. Babu. The film revolves around the struggles of a young man, who is forced to care for his newborn without any support from his family.

Ayothi:

Ayothi is a timely political drama that highlights the importance of communal harmony in a multi-ethnic society. It tells the story of how strangers belonging to different political ideologies rise above their differences to help each other and uphold human values. The film, written and directed by R. Manthira Moorthy, stars M. Sasikumar in the lead, while it has Yashpal Sharma, Preethi Asrani, Pugazh, Anju Asrani and Master Advaith Vinod in the supporting cast.

So much so that they forget they are the members of the middle class and behave like a couple of hooligans without the fear of - "what will people say." And this war between the two seemingly harmless neighbours breaks out over a conflicted parking spot. The film stars Harish Kalyan, M. S. Bhaskar and Indhuja Ravichandran in the lead roles.
