A short film based on the hit animated film Up announced
The hit 2009 animated film Up is set to receive a short film spinoff. Pixar has announced that the film is a follow-up to the Academy Award-winning film. The short film is the second follow-up to Up following the release of the sequel series Dug’s Day on Disney+. The short, titled Carl’s Date, follows Carl as he prepares for his first date since his wife’s passing. It will be screened along with Pixar’s upcoming film Elemental, which releases on June 16th.
John Wick director reveals plans for a spinoff based on Halle Berry’s character
The incredible success of John Wick: Chapter 4 has led Lionsgate to consider several spin-offs and sequels set in the John Wick franchise. To begin with, director Chad Stahelski has confirmed that he has plans of helming a spin-off surrounding Halle Berry’s character Sofia, who was last seen in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum. John Wick 5, Ballerina, and The Continental are some of the other projects currently in development at Lionsgate from the John Wick universe.
Venom 3 release date announced
Sony’s Spider-Man franchise is in full swing with the recent success of Spider-Man: Across the Spidervrse having drummed up much hype about the upcoming spinoffs Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter, and the video game Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The studio has now announced that Venom 3 starring Tom Hardy is set for a Halloween 2024 release. Ted Lasso star Juno Temple, who was recently cast in the film, revealed that filming will commence soon. Kelly Marcel, who wrote the first two instalments, will take over the reins as director. It was also announced that actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays Mordo in the Doctor Strange films, has also joined the cast. Stephen Graham and Michelle Williams are expected to reprise their roles in the film too.
The Good Wife remake starring Kajol reveals first trailer
The highly-anticipated remake of The Good Wife starring Kajol has finally released its first trailer. Titled The Trial – Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha, the series revolves around Kajol’s character Noyonika Sengupta, who decides to return to work as an attorney, after separating from her adulterous husband. Jisshu Sengupta, Alyy Khan, Sheeba Chaddha, Kubbra Sait and Gaurav Pandey essay prominent roles in the series. The original series starred TV legend Julianna Margulies in the lead, supported by an ensemble cast of Josh Charles, Christine Baranski, Archie Panjabi, and Chris North. The Trial – Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha is set to release on July 14 on Disney+ Hotstar.
Karan Johar’s upcoming show to focus on nepotism
Filmmaker Karan Johar has faced much criticism in the past for his role in enabling nepotism in Bollywood. In an ironic turn of events, Johar has announced a TV show titled Showtime, which will focus on nepotism. The upcoming show will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar, and the news was announced by Disney+ Hotstar Content Head, Gaurav Banerjee, during the trailer launch of Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha.
Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Bawaal’ to premiere on Amazon Prime Video
The Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor film Bawaal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari is set to premiere on streaming, skipping a theatrical release, as reported by an entertainment portal. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala has decided to sell the film’s rights to Amazon Prime Video. The report also adds that decision was made because the film is not a ‘conventional Bollywood film’ with song and dance numbers, and may not have what it takes to pull audiences to theatres. The film is set to be released on Prime Video in October this year.
