Welcome to Sizzling samachar your daily dose of entertainment news. I'm your host Nikhil. News from Hollywood first.

Ad-supported subscription tier coming to Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video is set to follow rivals Netflix and Disney+ in introducing ad-supported subscriptions for the platform in the US. The move comes amidst a slump in new subscriptions for streaming platforms across the globe. The move aims to offer a cheaper alternative to subscribers. Further details regarding the new tiers of subscription are yet to be announced by the streaming giant. But there’s a strong possibility that one will soon be able to watch select content on the platform without a subscription along with ads in India as well.

'Bob's Burgers’ actor Jay Johnston charged in Capitol Riots

Actor and comedian Jay Johnston, who is best known for his turns in Bob’s Burgers as Jimmy Pesto and the acclaimed comedy series Arrested Development, has been arrested. Johnston has been charged for his involvement in the Capitol riots incident when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in the US after Trump lost the Presidential election to Joe Biden. Johnston was fired from Bob’s Burgers in 2021 following the incident where he is said to have aided and abetted rioters.

Ocean’s Eleven prequel in development

Barbie duo Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie are set to team up again for another major project. The Hollywood stars have been cast in the prequel to the hit film Ocean’s Eleven. The original film starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Sandra Bullock in prominent roles. While more details about the project have been kept under wraps, there is speculation that Gosling and Robbie could be playing younger versions of Clooney and Bullock’s characters. Gosling and Robbie’s Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig is set to release on July 21 this year.

Christopher Nolan did not use CGI for the Trinity Nuclear Test

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan has earned a reputation for preferring practical effects to CGI. The fact that he crashed a real jumbo jet for Tenet is a testament to how far he is willing to push the limits to being authentic and creating the most cinematic shot. And it appears he has taken his love for practical effects to greater heights with the upcoming film Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy. In an interview with Empire Magazine, the British filmmaker explained that he tirelessly worked with visual effects supervisor, Andrew Jackson, to recreate the Trinity Nuclear Test using practical effects. Oppenheimer releases on July 21st this year, on the same day as Barbie.

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana confirmed with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead

Despite mounting speculation that Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana was postponed indefinitely, a new report by Pinkvilla confirms that the project is said to go on the floors by December this year or early next year. Alia Bhatt will reportedly star opposite her husband Ranbir Kapoor in the upcoming film. The couple will essay the roles of Ram and Sita, while Kannada superstar Yash will reportedly slip into the role of Raavan. The news comes amidst social media backlash against the upcoming Ramayana adaptation Adipurush, starring Prabhas, for its underwhelming visuals.
