Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a fan of Ranbir Kapoor's work, has been keen on working with him for a while. Although Ranbir had declined a previous offer for the film Baiju Bawra, he found the script of Love & War appealing and agreed to be a part of the project alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
