Welcome to another episode of Sizzling samachar, your daily dose of entertainment news. I'm your host Nikhil.

Ghajini 2 not on the cards: Allu Arvind

Recent rumours claimed that Ghajini, Aamir Khan’s blockbuster remake of Christopher Nolan’s 2000 hit Memento, is planning a sequel. But when an entertainment portal reached out to producer Allu Arvind to confirm the loose report, he vehemently dismissed it. The producer shared that there were no plans to make a sequel of the Aamir Khan-Asin starrer about the man who struggles with memory loss while seeking revenge for a brutal crime. Well, sequel or not, going by Khan’s ability to metamorphose for his characters, if there were a sequel, getting into a ripped frame would surely not be a concern for the actor known for his dramatic physical transformations.

Netflix to go big on K-Dramas after the success of The Glory

Who doesn’t love a revenge thriller with a twist? So it’s hardly surprising that Netflix’s Korean drama The Glory has been lapped up by viewers who’ve been drawn by the show’s taut narrative. Partially based on true events, the series follows a victim of bullying who hopes to seek revenge on her aggressors by joining the elementary school where their children are enrolled. The immense popularity of the show has not gone unnoticed by Netflix, which has now announced that it will invest an additional whopping 2.5 million dollars towards Korean content. Netflix shared that the show made it to the top 10 list of non-English shows in 91 countries. Well, we’re just anxiously waiting for the second season of Squid Game to drop when records will be shattered globally, yet again!

Bhediya to release on OTT in May 2023 on Jio Cinema
The Varun Dhawan-starrer creature comedy Bhediya has to be one of the most-awaited films on OTT. Following much critical acclaim and commercial success, the film has postponed its OTT release several times. But now, it has been confirmed by reliable sources that the werewolf comedy will release on Jio Cinema on Friday, May 26, 2023. Apart from Varun Dhawan, the comedy also stars Kriti Sanon, Deepak Dobriyal, and Abhishek Banerjee in pivotal roles.

Biggest OTT Releases: Movies, shows and web series releasing in May 2nd week, 2023

Shakuntalam
Telugu cinema’s obsession with lesser versions of Baahubali continues with Shakuntalam, which releases this week on May 12, 2023 on Amazon Prime Video. The film stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the eponymous role in this epic love story between King Dushyant and Shakuntala. High on production values and visual flourishes, the film was dismissed by critics for failing to string together a compelling story worth sitting through. Dubbed versions of the film would be available to stream in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.

Vikram Vedha

Vikram Vedha, the action-packed remake of the Tamil superhit film of the same name, has been one of the most awaited films on OTT. The Hrithik Roshan-Saif Ali Khan-starrer directed by Pushkar Gayatri released theatrically on September 30 last year but has been delaying its OTT release for some time. Now, according to reports, we’ve learnt that the film will finally release this week on OTT on May 12 on Jio Cinema and we’re stocking up on popcorn already!

Triangle of Sadness

Triangle of Sadness may not be for everyone, but this Oscar-nominated dark comedy that takes a stab at the quirks and conundrums of the super affluent is surely a unique film that deserves to be included into the curriculum of film schools for nuanced dissemination. Triangle of Sadness releases on OTT on Sony LIV on May 12, 2023 and we’re looking forward to laugh our hearts out.

Dahaad
The first Indian series to premiere at the Berlin international film festival, Dahaad, created by

Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti releases this week on May 12, 2023. Starring Sonakshi Sinha in the lead as tough cop on the trail of a serial killer who exclusively targets female victims, Dahaad also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Vijay Varma and Sohum Shah in crucial roles. We’re sure this one’s going to be a nerve-wracking watch that will keep you on the edge of your seat and is on our binge watch list of this week.

The Mother

This is not the first time we will see Jennifer Lopez in an action-packed avatar and for the love of God, we hope it isn’t the last. The Mother is a classic action-thriller starring Lopez as, well, a mother who is also a highly-trained operative who has to come out of the hiding to protect her daughter from ruthless assassins who seek revenge. How this one will fold is anyone’s guess, but we’re sure that Lopez is packing some serious heat and that’s enough reason to add this action-thriller to our watchlist of the week. The Mother releases this week on Netflix on May 12, 2023. Save this date on your calendar right now!

Well that's the entertainment news for today on OTTplay, until the next time its your host Nikhil signing out.
