Nic Pizzolatto to helm The Magnificent Seven series remake

The acclaimed creator, writer, and showrunner of True Detective, Nic Pizzolatto is set to helm a new project. Pizzolatto, who stepped away from overseeing the future seasons of the HBO crime drama, is set to adapt the iconic Western The Magnificent Seven into a TV series for Amazon. Pizzolatto had previously written the script for the 2016 film remake starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D'Onofrio. The original 1960 film, directed by John Sturges, featured Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, Charles Bronson, and James Coburn in lead roles. The original film itself was a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s critically-acclaimed film Seven Samurai.

Heartstopper Season 2 announces release date

Netflix’s hit queer rom-com series is returning for a second season and the streaming giant has finally announced a release date. The series is set to release on August 3rd and will follow the lives of teenagers Nick and Charlie as they navigate love, heartbreak and a range of emotions synonymous with the experience of being an adolescent today. Based on Alice Oseman’s novel of the same name, the series premiered its first episode in 2022 and was met with universal acclaim. It is helmed by Oserman and stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke in lead roles.

Kraven the Hunter to be Sony’s first R-rated Marvel film

The highly-anticipated Spider-man spin-off Kraven the Hunter revealed its first teaser at CinemaCon. The Sony/Marvel film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character who happens to be one of the many fierce adversaries of Spider-man. Taylor-Johnson’s take on the character will be that of an anti-hero, similar to Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Venom. It has been revealed that the comic book character Rhino will be the primary antagonist in the film, and the role will be played by Alessandro Nivola. The film is directed by J. C. Chandor and is set to release on October 6th 2023.

Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor Napoleon in Ridley Scott’s epic

CinemCon also revealed the first look of Ridley Scott’s upcoming epic Napoleon. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular French emperor and military leader and will follow Napoleon Bonaparte’s conquests across the globe. The film is produced by Apple and it will receive a theatrical release before dropping on Apple TV+. This one’s going to be historic, excuse the pun.

Gabrielle Union to essay the lead in Amazon’s murder mystery series Pretty Little Wife

Veteran American actress Gabrielle Union, best known for her performances in Bring It On, is set to essay the lead role in a new murder mystery series. Titled, Pretty Little Wife, the Amazon original series is based on the novel by Darby Kane. The plot revolves around two women – a wife who is accused of killing her husband and the detective who is in charge of the investigation. The series is helmed by Meredith Lavender, Marcie Ulin and Kristen SaBerre, with Lavender and Ulin collaborating again after working together on the hit series The Flight Attendant.

Netflix’s Zero Day announces a star-studded ensemble

Netflix’s upcoming political thriller series Zero Day has announced a star-studded ensemble. Robert De Niro will essay the lead as a former President of the United States who is tasked with leading a commission investigating a global cyber-attack. De Niro will be joined by Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Connie Britton, and Joan Allen in prominent roles. The series is helmed by Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim, and Michael S. Schmidt, with Lesli Linka Glatter directing all six episodes.

House of the Dragon announces new cast members for season 2

House of the Dragon, HBO’s hit spin-off to Game of Thrones has announced new additions to its cast for season two. Gayle Rankin, best known for her role in Glow has been cast as Alys Rivers, a woman with mystical powers who forms a relationship with Aemond Targaryen. Simon Russell Beale will essay the role of Ser Simon Strong, the Castellan of Harrenhal, Freddie Fox will play Otto Hightower’s son and Queen Alicent's brother, Ser Gwayne Hightower, and Abubakar Salim will play the role of Alyn of Hull, a sailor in the Velaryon fleet. Showrunner Ryan Condal will return to helm the second sequel.
