Welcome to your daily entertainment news on OTTplay, I'm your host Nikhil. Top stories first.

James Gunn confirmed as director for Superman: Legacy

After weeks of speculation, James Gunn has finally confirmed that he will be directing the upcoming rebooted Superman film, Superman: Legacy. Gunn, the new boss at DC Films, revealed earlier this year that he is working on the script for Superman: Legacy. The film is set for July 11, 2025 release with a new lead is slated to be cast, replacing the fan-favourite Henry Cavill. The film is one of the several projects announced under the newly rebranded DCU and we can’t wait to find out who will eventually be cast to play the new man of steel. Stay tuned in and we’ll let you know just when there’s an official announcement.

Mysterious Darkseid announcement by Zack Snyder

Despite DC co-head James Gunn announcing a reboot of the DC films, completely wiping out the universe created by Zack Snyder, and whatever is left of it, fans of Snyder have continued to petition on social media to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. The Snyder fandom went into a meltdown recently after the filmmaker shared a mysterious clip on social media. The clip featured an ominous message from one of DC’s biggest villains, Darkseid, and urged fans to save the dates between April 28 to April 30. It is unlikely that the divisive ‘Snyderverse’ will be restored considering both Warner Bros. and Snyder have moved on to other projects, and the very fact that Gunn is rebooting DC films. Fans are excited regardless, and it is not outside the realm of possibility that this big reveal has something to do with DC. Snyder is currently working on Netflix’s big-budget production of Rebel Moon, an epic space odyssey which is expected to release later this year on 22nd December. So what’s going to be the big announcement between April 28 to April 30? Your guess is as good as mine!

Jack Black to star in new Christmas comedy

Popular comedian and actor Jack Black is set to reunite with the Farrelly brothers, Bobby and Peter, for an upcoming Christmas comedy titled Dear Santa. The Farrellys are best known for helming iconic comedies such as Dumb & Dumber, Kingpin, There's Something About Mary, and Me, Myself & Irene. The trio will be teaming up for the first time since the 2001 romantic comedy Shallow Hal. The plot revolves around a young boy whose Christmas letter to Santa Claus was accidentally delivered to Satan as the result of a minor spelling mistake. As they say, the devil is in the details, quite literally in this case.

Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' eyes star-studded ensemble

Acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, whose film Pinocchio recently bagged an Oscar for Best Animated Feature, has his eyes set on a new project, a live-action Netflix adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Hollywood stars Oscar Isaac and Andrew Garfield, and rising star Mia Goth are among those in talks to star in the project. Details regarding Issac and Garfield’s roles in the film are kept under wraps, but Goth is expected to play the love interest of the fabled Dr.Frankenstein. We’re stoked about this monster romance and hope it lives up to del Toro’s visual aesthetic.

Disney+ cancels Willow after one season

Willow, the spinoff TV series to Ron Howard’s 1988 cult film of the same name, will not be returning for a second season. The decision is part of the newly reinstated Disney CEO Bob Iger’s restructuring of major brands such as Marvel and Star Wars. The fantasy series Willow, starring Warwick Davis and created by Jonathan Kasdan was met with a lukewarm reception when it debuted last year.

Lucy Boynton to star in Netflix series One Day in December

Bohemian Rhapsody and The Pale Blue Eye star Lucy Boynton, is set to star in the Netflix series adaption of Josie Silver's best-selling romance novel One Day in December. Drake Doremus and Joel Stillerman are developing the series, with Boynton serving as co-executive producer. The plot revolves around Boynton’s character Laurie who does not believe in the notion of love at first sight. However, she is forced to introspect her beliefs after she falls for a man she spots through a bus window. Details regarding filming and the release window are kept under wraps but we’re hopeful that this will be a romance to remember.
