Chris Pine to play the villain in the new Disney animated film

Hollywood star Chris Pine, who is best known for starring in Star Trek, Wonder Woman, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, is set to play the villain in a new Disney animated film. Pine will essay the role of King Magnifico in the film titled Wish. The teaser for the film showcases Pine’s character ready to grant wishes, with sinister intentions, to the citizens of his Kingdom, Rosas. The film’s lead character, Asha, is voiced by Academy Award-winner Ariana DeBose. The animated film will employ a 2D and 3D hybrid animation style, similar to  Arcane, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Wish is slated to release in theaters on November 22, 2023.

John Cena and Alison Brie to star in new action comedy

French filmmaker Pierre Morel, who is best known for directing the hit action thriller Taken, is set to release his latest project titled Freelance. The film stars John Cena and Community, GLOW, and BoJack Horseman star Alison Brie in lead roles. Pro-wrestler-turned-film star Cena will slip into the role of an ex-special forces operative who is attempting to survive a military coup, while Brie essays the role of a tenacious journalist reporting on the coup. Freelance is set to premiere in theatres on October 6, 2023.

Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri to star in new comedy helmed by Shiva Baby director Emma Seligman

Emma Seligman, who garnered acclaim for helming the comedy film Shiva Baby, is set to release her new queer comedy titled Bottoms. Rachel Sennott, who played the lead role in Shiva Baby, reunites with Seligman for Bottoms. The Bear actress Ayo Edebiri stars alongside Sennott in the film, as their characters hatch a devious plan to become popular in high school during their senior year. Bottoms will hit theatres on August 25, 2023.

Benicio del Toro and Alicia Silverstone reunite for a new thriller titled ‘Reptile’

Academy Award-winner Benicio Del Toro is set to reunite with 90s Hollywood superstar Alicia Silverstone for a new crime thriller titled Reptile. The duo previously starred together in the 1997 crime comedy Excess Baggage. They will essay the roles of detectives attempting to solve the gruesome murder of a real estate agent, with Justin Timberlake’s character being the primary suspect. The film is helmed by Grant Singer, who makes his directorial debut, and also features a supporting cast of Eric Bogosian, Domenick Lombardozzi, and Karl Glusman among others. Reptile will premiere on Netflix on October 6, 2023.

‘Blue Beetle’ Director Ángel Manuel Soto to team up with Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa for a new film

Despite positive critical reception Ángel Manuel Soto’s DC film Blue Beetle has failed to make a dent in the global box office. It appears the filmmaker has already moved on to his next project with the buddy comedy Wrecking Crew. Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa have been roped in to play the lead roles in the film. The project is bankrolled by MGM Studios and is based on a script by Jonathan Tropper, who is best known for helming the TV series, Warrior. Further details regarding the project have been kept under wraps.

British thriller ‘Row’ casts Sophie Skelton, Bella Dayne and Akshay Khanna

The Outlander star Sophie Skelton is set to star alongside Red, White & Royal Blue actor Akshay Khanna and Troy: Fall of a City actress Bella Dayne in a new British thriller titled Row. Directed by Matthew Losasso and written by Nick Skaugan, the plot revolves around a woman with no recollection of her past who comes ashore in a rowing boat drenched in blood. Filming will commence in September in Scotland and the film is scheduled to release in 2024.
