Firebrand, the highly anticipated historical thriller starring Jude Law and Alicia Vikander, is set to hit theatres on June 21, 2024. The film, based on Elizabeth Fremantle's novel Queen's Gambit, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was acquired for North American distribution by Roadside Attractions and Vertical. Jonathan Majors fired at Marvel, found guilty of harassment, assault
Disney and Marvel have severed ties with actor Jonathan Majors following his legal troubles, which involved domestic battery charges and subsequent guilty verdicts on two misdemeanour counts of harassment and assault. Majors, known for his role as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and in the TV series Loki, faced legal issues that led to his arrest in March 2023. With the termination of his partnership with Disney and Marvel, the upcoming film slate for the Marvel Cinematic Universe will undergo significant changes, as Majors’ character Kang was set to be the next major villain of the MCU after Josh Brolin’s Thanos. Michael Waldron, the writer behind Loki, has been enlisted to create a new draft for the affected projects, with the role also expected to be recast. Despite the setback, Disney and Marvel plan to proceed with their upcoming films, aiming for a replacement for Majors in due course.
Neha Dhupia to make International film debut in ‘Blue 52’ directed by Ali El Arabi
Indian actor Neha Dhupia is set to make her international film debut in Blue 52, directed by Egyptian filmmaker Ali El Arabi. The film, set against the backdrops of Kochi, India, and Qatar, promises to showcase a never-before-seen avatar of the actress in a character. The story revolves around Ashish, who, isolated by his father at the age of 9, grows up on an island near the backwaters of Kochi. At the age of 22, Ashish leaves home, in the hopes of meeting his idol, Lionel Messi, at the World Cup in Qatar 2022, leading to self-discovery and finding his passion. Neha Dhupia expressed her excitement about the international debut, describing the journey as magical and transformative. Director Ali El Arabi praised Dhupia's dedication to the role and highlighted the collaborative spirit of international cinema in crafting the film. Blue 52 is presented by Ambient Light, with Ali El Arabi serving as director and producer.
Deepika Padukone in talks with Netflix for drug mafia-themed web project
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is reportedly in talks with Netflix for an upcoming web project centred around the drug mafia culture in India. The project, described as a "mega-action thriller," has piqued the interest of the actress, and discussions are underway to fit it into her schedule. The film is expected to delve into the drug mafia culture from a female perspective and will feature action sequences. If all goes well, the shooting is anticipated to commence early next year. Padukone, who made her OTT debut last year with Gehraiyaan, has recently gained attention for her performances in major Bollywood hits such as Pathaan and Jawan.
