Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt wrap up filming for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt have wrapped filming for Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. Singh shared a video of the wrap-up party which was attended by veteran actors Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi. Bhatt joined the party through a video call. The film which marks Singh’s first collaboration with Johar will hit theaters next year. It also features Jaya Bachchan.

Netflix sues Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear

Streaming giant Netflix is taking legal actions against songwriting duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear over their Grammy-winning The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, which is based on the Netflix series Bridgerton. The move comes after the duo performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC last week. The official complaint stated that Barlow and Bear took valuable intellectual property from the Netflix original series Bridgerton to build an international brand for themselves. Although the streamer initially hailed the concept, it raised objections when the musical expanded into a profitable business for the duo.

Star Trek star Nichelle Nichols dies

Nichelle Nichols, who played Lieutenant Uhura in the 1960s show Star Trek, died of natural causes on Sunday. She was 89. Nichols was one of the first Black actresses in the US to essay an authoritative role on-screen. Her kiss with William Shatner aka Captain Kirk on the show is considered to be one of the first interracial kisses on television.

Netflix launches Netflix India Shorts

Netflix has launched a new YouTube channel exclusively for short videos, interviews, film teasers, memes and more. Netflix India Shorts will feature 60-second clips from films and shows that are available to stream on Netflix.

The Lord of Dreams is finally making his much anticipated live-action debut this weekend on Netflix. Based on Neil Gaiman’s critically acclaimed best-selling novels, The Sandman is a dark fantasy drama. The show will premiere this Friday on Netflix.

All or Nothing: Arsenal (Prime Video)

The acclaimed docu-series All or Nothing is back, and this time around it will focus on the North London Premier League side Arsenal. The series will chronicle how Arsenal's bid to return to Europe’s elite competition, the UEFA Champions League, after a six-year absence ended in failure after their derby rivals Tottenham Hotspur pipped them in the final weeks of the 2021-22 season. Malayalam action-film director Shaji Kailas is back with yet another high-octane action drama. Prithviraj Sukumaran essays the lead as a rubber estate owner who clashes with a high-ranking policeman. The film will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on the 4th of August.

Wedding Season (Netflix)

When two young American singles of Indian heritage are pressured by their parents to get married, the pair decide to put on a facade to get the parents off their backs by pretending to date. This American rom-com with a desi flavor titled Wedding Season will be available on Netflix on August 4th.

Thirteen Lives (Prime Video)

Thirteen Lives is a true story based on the cave rescue operation when a group of young boys part of a football team and their coach were trapped in a cave in Thailand. Directed by Ron Howard, the film stars Colin Farrell, Viggo Mortensen, and Joel Edgerton in lead roles. The film will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on the 5th of August.

Lightyear

The popular character Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story franchise is set to make his standalone streaming debut this week. Starring Chris Evans in the lead as the titular character, the plot revolves around the film within the Toy Story universe which inspired the toy owned by Andy Davis in the Toy Story franchise. The film will be available to stream on Disney+ Hostar in India on the 3rd of August.
