Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ receives UA certification

The audio launch event of the highly anticipated Rajinikanth film Jailer was held last week with plenty of fanfare. However, that did not spare the film from being scrutinised by the censor board. The upcoming action film reportedly underwent 11 cuts and the filmmakers were asked to shorten the lengths of the violent action scenes before granting it a UA certificate. Jailer will be released in theatres on 10th August.

‘Mirzapur’ film adaptation reportedly in development

Popular Hindi series, Mirzapur is being adapted into a feature film according to reports. The original series garnered a massive fan following since it premiered in 2018. Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi and Kulbhushan Kharbanda among others played prominent roles in the series helmed by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna. It is now being reported that the filmmakers are considering a Mirzapur film. Further details regarding the project are kept under wraps.

‘Kasargold’ starring Asif Ali announces release date

Malayalam actor Asif Ali is set to star alongside Sunny Wayne in the upcoming film Kasargold. The film will be set in rural northern Kerala and is directed by Mridul Nair. This is the third film from Yoodlee Films following Padavettu and Kaapa. The film also features a supporting cast of Malavika Sreenath, Sidhique, and P P Kunhikrishnan among others in supporting roles.  Kasargold is set to release in theatres on September 15, 2023.

Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati to star in new film

Popular Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan is set to star against Telugu star Rana Daggubati in the upcoming film Kaantha. Both actors will also serve as producers for the film with Salmaan through his Wayfarer Films and Daggubati through his Spirit Media. Daggubati shared the news on social media and the film will be released in multiple regional languages. Details regarding the film’s plot have been kept under wraps.

Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise to collaborate for new R-rated film after ‘Mission: Impossible 8’

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise, was met with universal acclaim when it hit theatres last month. The sequel to the film is scheduled to release next year with both McQuarrie and Cruise returning as director and lead star. McQuarrie has now confirmed that the duo will be reuniting beyond the Mission: Impossible franchise for a film tentatively titled The Gnarly Movie. As the film title suggests it will be an R-rated production with plenty of violence. It will be a departure from Cruise’s recent big-budget projects.

‘Venom 3’ and ‘Bad Boys 4’ to release in 2024

Sony has reshuffled their release schedule for 2023 and 2024 as a result of the dual writers and actors strike in the US. The release date of the highly anticipated Spider-Man spinoff Madame Webb has been moved up to Valentine's Day next year, February 14, 2024. While the Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney film is moved up, the Aaron Taylor-Johnson Spider-Man spinoff, Kraven the Hunter, has been postponed to 2024 along with the Ghostbusters sequel. However, it's bad news for Spider-Man fans as Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has been removed from the release calendar. The other major news is surrounding yet another Spider-Man spinoff. Tom Hardy’s Venom 3 has been slated for a 2024 release along with Bad Boys 4 starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Venom 3 will hit theatres on July 12, 2024, while Bad Boys 4 will release on June 14, 2024.
