‘Fukrey 3’ director to collaborate with Gurmmeet Singh and Suparn Verma for a gangster web series

Fukrey 3 director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba has been in the news for his latest film, the third instalment of the Fukrey franchise which releases on 28th September. It is now being reported that the director is already eyeing his next project and will reportedly collaborate with Phone Bhoot director Gurmmeet Singh for a new gangster series. The duo will also be joined by renowned TV director Suparn Verma, who is best known for directing episodes of hit shows such as The Family Man, Rana Naidu, and The Trial. Jio Studios’ and Reliance Entertainment will bankroll the project and it is expected to commence production soon. Further details about the series have been kept under wraps.

Taika Waititi’s ‘Next Goal Wins’ trailer released

After lengthy delays in production due to the global pandemic, Kiwi director Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins is finally set to hit the big screens. Loosely based on the eponymous 2014 sports documentary, the film tells the underdog story of the American Samoa national football team and their attempts to qualify for the 2014 World Cup despite being labelled as one of the weakest teams in history. The film stars Michael Fassbender in the lead as the newly-appointed coach tasked with turning the fortunes of the team around. Next Goal Wins premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this year and will release in theatres on November 17.

‘Star Trek 4’ in development confirms writer

The fourth instalment of the rebooted Star Trek film series has been in a limbo since 2022 after director Matt Shakman moved on to helm Disney’s new Fantastic Four. Fans were left disappointed with the possibility that a fourth film starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto might never materialise. However, Lindsey Anderson Beer, who is the writer and director of the upcoming film Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, has hinted that Star Trek 4 is in development. In a recent interview with the Collider, Anderson Beer claimed that the fourth film is still in the works – leaving Star Trek fans cautiously optimistic.

Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Lord of the Flies’ remake is scarier than the original, says producer

Filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer provided updates on a few other films, apart from her directorial debut Pet Sematary: Bloodlines and Star Trek 4. Anderson Beer is also working on the reboot of the hit Johnny Depp-led horror film Sleepy Hollow and she will serve as the producer for the upcoming reboot of Lord of the Flies, helmed by renowned Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. The Call Me Your Name and Bones and All director, Guadagnino, is also credited for the 2024 sports drama Challengers starring Zendaya. According to Anderson Beer, Guadagnino's version of the iconic film will be a refreshing take with an emphasis on psychological horror. Lord of the Flies is based on the 1954 novel by Nobel laureate William Golding about a group of boys attempting to govern themselves after being stranded on a deserted island.

Jeremy Allen White stars alongside Jessie Buckley and Riz Ahmed in new sci-fi romance film ‘Fingernails'

Jeremy Allen White, the lead star of the new critically-acclaimed FX drama series The Bear will star alongside Women Talking actress Jessie Buckley and Sound of Metal actor Riz Ahmed in the new sci-fi romance film Fingernails. The film is set in an institute where the laws of human attraction are studied through unconventional means, such as a machine using torn-out fingernails to study various aspects of love. The film will also star Emmy Award-winning Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy and Hollywood veteran Luke Wilson in prominent roles. Fingernails premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival earlier this year before a limited theatrical release on October 27 and will release worldwide on Apple TV+ on November 3rd.

Abigail Breslin stars in new historical thriller ‘Miranda's Victim’

Abigail Breslin, who is best known for playing the lead in the acclaimed 2006 comedy-drama Little Miss Sunshine, will headline the upcoming thriller Miranda's Victim. The true crime film revolves around the story of how the ‘Miranda warning’ became significant to the American judicial system. Directed by Michelle Danner, the film explores the notion that a traumatised victim may not be in the right mental state to accurately describe their predicament in the immediate aftermath of a crime. Lead star Breslin is joined by a stacked cast of Luke Wilson, Kyle MacLachlan, Ryan Phillipe, Mireille Enos, Emily VanCamp, Andy Garcia, and Donald Sutherland. Miranda’s Victim will release theatrically and on VOD platforms on October 6, 2023.
